October is, quite possibly, the best time to visit the mountains for a weekend getaway as everyone clamors to witness the peak fall colors, crisp air, and cool nights. For those of you lucky enough to venture to higher altitude this weekend, here are some insights into activities around Ashe County! Don't forget your flannel, puffy vest, and hat! There are several entrances to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Ashe County. There's one on Hwy 16 where Wilkes County and Ashe County meet and another along 421 just before it merges with 221.
Mt Jefferson State Natural Area is wonderful. There are several short hike options and the views are amazing.
